The Team

Ryan Mick - Founder

From an early age, Ryan developed a keen interest in the paranormal, prompted by personal experiences including witnessing full-body apparitions and other unexplained events. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, during which time he traveled extensively and gained exposure to diverse cultures.

After completing his military service, Ryan embarked on a career in software development and now serves as the Director of Applications and Integrations for one of California’s largest health club organizations. In 2008, he formally established the Northern California Paranormal Society (Nor-C.A.P.S.), maintaining his enduring dedication to paranormal research.

Through Nor-C.A.P.S., Ryan made his initial visit to Preston Castle in Ione, subsequently volunteering as both a historical and paranormal docent. He has coordinated paranormal tours and conferences to support fundraising efforts for historic sites and museums. Notably, Ryan participated in the premiere episode of "The Lowe Files" (2017), filmed at Preston Castle, and has presented at various paranormal conferences and to academic audiences, including a forensic history class at Sacramento State University.

As a Paranormal Investigator, Ryan maintains a stance of open skepticism, rigorously analyzing data and personal accounts before forming conclusions regarding claims of haunting.

Anna Fantasia - Investigator

From a very young age, Anna's childhood experiences with the paranormal developed into a respectable interest in spirit and the soul’s journey. Raised in a multi-ethnic family, she valued the beliefs and stories of cultures from around the world, and graduated with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Literature from the University of California, Davis.

For 25 years she has worked exclusively in the museum industry- from science to history, and has led paranormal tours at Preston Castle in Ione and currently at the Folsom History Museum in Folsom, CA.

Russell Marquez - Investigator / Tech Specialist

Russ joined the Northern California Amateur Paranormal Society (Nor‑C.A.P.S.), in 2013 as a skeptic new to the paranormal.

Though often cynical about investigations, he enjoys the technical side of the work. Over time, his experiences have tempered his skepticism, which he maintains in a balanced way. He openly shares his findings for feedback and encourages others to do the same.

Alongside Ryan, Russ developed and taught audio and video investigation techniques at the Oregon Ghost Conference.

The team also volunteers with local historical organizations to promote interest in paranormal investigations through sound-based methods and a variety of equipment.

By day, Russ works in IT and enjoys camping and prospecting in his free time.

Al Marquez - Investigator

Al joined Nor-Caps in 2024 as a part-time investigator, contributing to the team whenever his schedule allows. With a strong interest in technology and a natural aptitude for analytical thinking, he has developed a growing passion for paranormal investigation. His ability to critically evaluate evidence and identify anomalies makes him a valuable asset to the team’s investigative efforts.

In addition to field work, Al has represented Nor-Caps at events such as the Oregon Ghost Conference, where he supported the team at the vendor table and engaged with the public. He consistently brings forward new ideas and methods aimed at enhancing investigative techniques and strengthening overall team dynamics.

Driven by curiosity and guided by a thoughtful, questioning approach, Al plays a key role in advancing Nor-Caps’ mission and ongoing growth. He combines analytical rigor with a calm, approachable presence that helps put both clients and team members at ease during investigations. Known for his collaborative spirit and easy sense of humor, Al brings a human element to the team’s work while remaining committed to careful, evidence-based exploration. Outside of investigations, he enjoys camping, D&D, and spending time outdoors.
